The Last meal on the Titanic and my hope for you in 2021

And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. John 17:3

Soon a New Year will arrive, 12 months untested, untried, and unknown to us but fully known to the Lord, this thought coming from the mind of the late Scottish Preacher Peter Marshall.

Peter died at the tender age of 46.  Heart problems in 1949 were simply beyond the reach of medical knowledge then. Today we live longer, and because of increased life spans, people have more opportunity to ponder, really consider the shortness of life, even for the most long tenured among us. I recently asked my mother who is 85 if her life has gone fast, she said a quick yes!

We simply do not know how long we have, and the need to consider carefully the things that matter most is now, while there is time!

I am thinking this December 24th afternoon of the ill fated Titanic, who on her maiden voyage sunk, the only thing that unsinkable ship did was sink as someone observed!

I read this week:

A huge staff labored in Titanic's massive gallery to prepare more than 6,000 meals a day. The last meal eaten by the wealthiest guests on Titanic's last night was decadent.

The feast began with raw oysters, followed by a choice of soup. Next, they were served lightly poached Atlantic salmon. For the fourth and fifth courses, the passengers chose from filet mignon, saute' of chicken Lyonnaise, lamb, roast duckling, and sirloin of beef. They had multiple sides, wine, rum, champagne, dessert choices, fruits, nuts, cheese, and coffee.

The menu fades in the realization that for many this was their "last" meal.

This has been a hard year for everyone, world wide! Loss after loss distant and near. Two wonderful and Godly deacons, here in the church I serve are spending Christmas in heaven, how they will be missed.

My hope is the reminder that one day we will experience our last meal, our last day or night should compel us to make sure our spiritual house is in order!

What are you doing about that part of you that will live forever?

We are secure in Christ, and John's appeal for your own personal security must be accepted.... "And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." John 17:3.

Secure in Christ, thats my hope for you in 2021
