This place we call home!

I love our country. To begin to list the many and varied reasons would take more than one blog. I love our freedom, perhaps the most.

Because the world is shrinking  (thanks to technology) any unrest anywhere is instantly known. Problems in Egypt.... we are aware of it before some Egyptians are!

I am reminded, that the World is a dangerous place, and not everyone experiences freedom, as we do.

I know we have are own set of issues, real problems that will take more than human brilliance to solve.

Don't you think it's time to just stop, and be thankful for what we do have, what we do enjoy?

I know things, seemingly are always going up, be it the cost of electricity, College tuition, utilities or our weight. Yet, there is something to be said about just enjoying, what we have... even for one brief moment.

Yesterday during the pre-kickoff of the Superbowl the declaration of Independence was read by famous football players, standing with other Americans. In that regard (Being American) we all have equal footing, the segment reminded me of the courage of our For- Fathers and Sisters who dared to stand against Britain and declare our freedom!

Just before the Kickoff yesterday Christina Aguilera, missed a line while singing the national anthem. She has been taken to task for it, and has since apologised. I love that about Americans too, we will hold you accountable, but for the most part have big hearts and offer second chances.

Here is some interesting insight about "our" song:

In 1814, Francis Scott Key wrote the poem, Defense of Fort McHenry. The poem was later put to the tune of (John Stafford Smith's song) The Star Spangled Banner became the U.S. National Anthem in 1931.

Here is the first verse, that we all should know:)

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

For some reason today, I needed to go back to Whitney Houston's, Superbowl and Superb, rendition of our National Anthem sung at the 1991 Super Bowl, during the first Gulf War.

It provided the obligatory goosebumps....as you listen to her, perhaps sing along with her....stop afterword and thank the Lord for this place we call home!
