Can God's Existence be Proven?

British physicist and mathematician Stephen Hawking says no, arguing in his new book that there need not be a God behind the creation of the universe.

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing," the excerpt says.

"Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist. It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going."

What is the Christian response to such a statement?

I would ask Dr. Hawking, Who created the law of gravity?

Atheists often deride believers with questions of God’s existence…they say you can’t prove God in a laboratory!

You can if you get in the right Laboratory!

Jesus said in John 7:17:

If anyone's will is to do God's will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.

To know God, you have to be willing to be open to His existence. There is much in this world that we don’t know…..realities that are outside of our realm of Knowledge!

Could it be that God exists in a body of knowledge that Dr. Hawking does not currently have?

The book of John states:

This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. (John 21:24)

Honest skeptics should read the book of John (One chapter a day) and ask God to reveal who He is.

Can God be proven? Can He be known….really?

Yes…it is a matter of the will and an openness to begin a quest to find  the answers to the critical questions of life:

Is there a God
Who is He?
How can I know Him?
Why am I here?

You can know if you want to!

The reason most people don’t find God is the same reason a thief can’t find a policeman…they are not looking for Him!

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. (Psalm 19:1)

*I am indebted to the thinking and preaching of Dr. Adrian Rogers, for the framework of this response to Atheistic  ideas.
