Afraid?

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live.  (John 11: 25).

*In Catherine Marshall’s classic biography of her husband, A Man Called Peter, she eloquently describes how dark the night of grief can be—and how bright the new dawn of faith.

During the summer after Dr. Marshall’s death she returned to the summer cottage at Cape Cod, where everything from the boat in the yard to his old shoes under the bed spoke of him.

Seeking the solace of the sea, she headed beach ward that first tempestuous, lonely evening. As she gazed across the water, she suddenly remembered the last words she had spoken to him.

The scene was etched clearly in her mind. Peter was lying on the stretcher just inside the front door, waiting to be put in the ambulance. She leaned over him and he whispered reassuringly, “Darling, I’ll see you in the morning.”

Her last line is the best: “And as I stood looking out toward that far horizon, I knew that those words would go singing in my heart down all the years . . . ‘see you, darling, see you in the morning . . .”

That is our hope. When two people are Christians they never say Good-bye for the last time. Our Lord gives us the hope of a glad reunion!

Why should we be afraid of death? * The New Ministers Manuel Paul W. Powell, George W. Truett Theological Seminary

“Afraid”?

Afraid? Of what?
To feel the spirit's glad release?
To pass from pain to perfect peace,
The strife and strain of life to cease?
Afraid? Of that?

Afraid? Of what?
Afraid to see the Savior’s face,
To hear His welcome, and to trace,
The glory gleam from wounds of grace,
Afraid? Of that?

Afraid? Of what?
A flash - a crash - a pierced heart;
Brief darkness - Light - O Heaven's art!
A wound of His a counterpart!
Afraid? Of that?
Afraid? Of what?
To enter into Heaven's rest,
And yet to serve the Master blessed?
From service good to service best?
Afraid? Of that?

Afraid? Of what?
To do by death what life could not -
Baptize with blood a stony plot,
Till souls shall blossom from the spot?
Afraid? Of that? -  E.H. Hamiliton

Liberty University Professor Gary Habermas once wrote:

“The Resurrection is a rock that can bear the weight of Christianity”

Are you resting the full weight of your life on the one who defeated death, and offers us not mere earthly hope, but hope eternal?

Enjoy MercyMe as they sing "I can only imagine"....a song about heaven! And just think because of Jesus, those who know Him, and are known by Him, one day won't have to imagine!
