The Narrow Gate

Giving ones life to the Lord Jesus Christ,is not the way of the world. People are often reluctant, or hesitant and preoccupied, with the busyness of life, to take the time and really consider their spiritual life and the claims of Jesus Christ.

I believe, a decision to live life, apart from a true investigation of the life of Jesus is the most regrettable of choices.

Even the disciples (Men who had spent three years with Jesus) were questioning who He claimed to be, they were concerned. Jesus is heading to a cross and a (unknown to them) empty tomb! In the days leading up to Our Lord’s death there is growing fear and confusion, in Johns gospel, Thomas asks Jesus this question:

"Lord," Thomas said, "we don't know where You're going. How can we know the way?" Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
(John 14:5-6).

And then Jesus makes a clear statement of exclusivity... Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it. (Matthew 7: 13-14).

Following Christ adhering to His principles is exclusive! When Jesus say’s enter through the narrow gate, when He says How narrow is the gate, He is stating clearly that following Him, means realizing that He and He alone is the way the God! Jesus is not just another way to God, He is the way!

In His hard Hitting book, "Hard to Believe, The High cost and infinite value of following Jesus", John MacArthur wrote:

The main Characteristic of the way life Jesus pointed to was it’s narrowness. It’s not enough to listen to preaching about the gate; it is not enough to respect the ethics…you've got to walk through the gate! And you can’t come unless you abandon your self-righteousness, see yourself as a beggar in Spirit, mourning over sin, meek before a Holy God, not proud , not boastful, hungering and thirsting for righteousness, and not believing you have it!
In a chilling concluding statement MacArthur writes: Hell will be full of people who thought highly of the sermon on the mount. You must do more than that. You must obey it and take action!

I like the way the late Bible teacher J. Vernon. McGee put it:Jesus is not giving a choice between a broad way with lot’s of fun and a narrow , dark, uninviting alley, not at all...

He is giving a picture of a funnel: If you enter the funnel at the broad end, it keeps narrowing down, until you come to death, destruction, and hell. But if you enter the funnel at the narrow part ( Where Christ is) He is the narrow gate, The way the truth and the life, the one who gives abundant life! And the longer you walk with Him the wider it gets!
If you find yourself at this moment unsure of just who Jesus Christ was and is, I encourage you to begin an investigation. Begin reading the Gospel of John, a book written: So that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.(John 20:31).

"Can God be proven in a laboratory? He can if you get in the right laboratory!" Adrian Rogers

Gods Word (The Bible) is that laboratory!

Have you passed through the "Narrow Gate" ? Are you following The Lord Jesus Christ, have you asked him to forgive your sins and be your Savior?

I have and I would not trade that relationship, for anything in the world!
