Another Shot

If you ever wanted a second chance, if you ever wanted to do it all over and do it right, then listen to Joe Kita. He did it for all of us." (Regis Philbin)

We all have our regrets, but rarely do we give ourselves a chance to try to do anything about them. After turning forty, Joe Kita set out to relive his top-twenty personal regrets.

*In his book, Another Shot, Joe Kita, recounts his adventures-from the hilarious to the poignant.. Bemoaning the selling of his first love, a powerhouse Camaro, he hires a private detective to find it. Still smarting from the sting of getting cut from his high school basketball team, he convinces his alma mater's coach to let him try out for the squad again-more than twenty years later. (*From The Books Introduction)

In a follow up book Joe determined it was time to face his fears. He made a list of 10 and set out to conquer every single one. He picked deep, dark, knee-knocking fears, like being alone, flying, and death!

He tried solitary confinement and discovered that he couldn't make it through the first night. He tackled his fear of flying by taking jet fighter lessons (the results were embarrassing) To face his fear of death, he planned his own funeral and then, with the wry humor that he is known for, he asked a knife thrower to use him for target practice.

We all know fear, perhaps your fears are similar to Joe’s…..something that people fear often is…change, they fear something new….covering, erasing something old that was to them very dear and meaningful.

Jesus teaches us about change (it’s necessary, Its inevitable)

Then they said to Him, "John's disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but Yours eat and drink." Jesus said to them, "You can't make the wedding guests fast while the groom is with them, can you? But the days will come when the groom will be taken away from them—then they will fast in those days."

He also told them a parable: "No one tears a patch from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. Otherwise, not only will he tear the new, but also the piece from the new garment will not match the old.

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, it will spill, and the skins will be ruined. But new wine should be put into fresh wineskins. And no one, after drinking old wine, wants new, because he says, 'The old is better.' " (Luke 5: 33-39).

When Jesus is around things Change!

When Jesus is around things are new!
