Struggles

In October of 2008 in midtown Manhattan, time stood still literally. After the country's debt surpassed $10 trillion, the marquee-sized debt clock in Times Square, which has kept a running tally of the U.S. national debt for nearly 20 years, ran out of digits.

For a nation already struggling with a bleak economic reality, it was a less-than-reassuring display.

Several news organizations quipped about such a literal "sign of the times," while another newspaper offered its own brand of gallows humor: "If everyone just donated one dollar, we would have enough money to buy a new clock.“
A little history on the clock: It was created in 1989 by Manhattan real estate developer Seymour Durst to inform the public about the nation's snowballing national debt (back then, it was $2.7 trillion).

According to the Treasury, the national debt has grown more than $500 billion each year since fiscal year 2003! These are harrowing difficult times!
Americans are struggling and we will continue to do so for an indefinite period of time!

Is there any hope? Yes, but not in more debt, not in the wisdom of man, but God! During these times of struggle it’s helpful to have perspective on what should really be utmost in our minds. I will not minimize the depth of this crisis or our need to be wise and frugal…but God will make away for His own…always has..always will. Once we have done all He leads us to do in our financial lives, He has something to say to us about what we should really struggle about!

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you, for those in Laodicea, and for all who have not seen me in person. 2 [I want] their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding, and have the knowledge of God's mystery —Christ. 3 In Him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.

4 I am saying this so that no one will deceive you with persuasive arguments. 5 For I may be absent in body, but I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the strength of your faith in Christ. (Colossians 2: 1-5).

The Apostle Paul had struggles that we would be wise to emulate. He longed...

1. To be near people He missed
2. That believers know who they are in Jesus
3. To hear of their strong faith, and ability to recognize false teaching
